The construction of the Golden Gate Bridge originally began on January 5th 1933, by McClintic-Marshall Construction Company. With a $30 million budget, the bridge was completed in April of 1937. The project was the idea of Joseph Strauss and M.M. O’Shaughnessy and became open for through traffic in May of 1937. Since then the Golden Gate Bridge has become a land mark for not only the city of San Francisco but also the state of California. It has also become one of the world’s most photographed bridges and is consider one of the world’s wonders by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
